November of 2023 the county commission passed new rules that is supposed to make it easier to sell county owned property to adjacent neighbors without the need to advertise the sell. One property the county used as an example is the HUGE ASS gas station sign Alabama Hwy across from Walter Jackson Chevrolet. The gas station has been using the sign to advertise their gas prices for years and it actually has power going to it. I decided to look this property up today and according to public the county still owns it. The gas station gets free use of the property and doesn't have to pay a red cent in Texes either. The county has it valued at $1000 which is low in my opinion. Look it up yourself as it is parcel # 0038D048. If the county cannot manage to sell this property in the past year to the gas station then the need to advertise the sale wasn't the problem in the past, it is a lack of accountability and we deserve better as tax payers in the county.
